Juan Antonio Nieto Arroyo, also known as Pangea (Madrid, January 20, 1961- Madrid, February 27, 2022), was a Spanish sound artist who signs some of his works under the name of Pangea. His work has been published by record companies around the world such as Trente Oiseaux, Mandorla, Experimedia, Impulsive Habitat, Idiosyncratics, Luscinia, AMP or Audiotalaia, among others. Nieto collaborated with some of the most prestigious avant-garde artists in the world, such as the Brazilian classical composer Leo Alves Vieira, with whom he worked with the Quarteto de Cordas da Grota, the Serbian composer Igor Jovanovic, the Japanese writer Kenji Siratori who provided the voice to his compositions, the American turntablist María Chávez, the Argentine video artist Laura Focarazzo, a collaboration that won the Diario de Levante prize at the Incubarte Festival in Valencia in 2012, the Greek percussionist Chris Silver T., the Argentine musician Luís Marte, the German artist Kris Limbach, the Spanish musician Javier Piñango with whom he formed a stable duo, the Spanish duo Oikos, the Swedish musician Metek, the video artist Roland Quelven, or the Colombian musician David Vélez, this last work was considered the best album of the year 2007 by Earlabs magazine. His music has been included in various artistic installations such as the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, the Cultural Center of Spain in Buenos Aires, the Fuga Lab festival, the Moozak Festival in Vienna or the Abstracta cinema festival of Rome.
